The campus boasts stunning views, including the college’s football stadium, which serves as the backdrop to its vibrant community. Slingshot is proud to partner with Carthage College to renovate its campus store, transforming it into a space that not only highlights the institution’s rich history but also tells its story in a fresh, dynamic way. Through close collaboration with various departments, we reimagined the store’s layout, updated its aesthetic, and expanded the product offerings to meet the evolving needs of the campus community. We selected neutral tones for the walls and flooring, which beautifully complement the light walnut finishes of the custom fixtures. These design choices allow Carthage’s school colors and logos to take center stage, amplifying the collegiate spirit and creating a bright, open, and inviting environment. With Slingshot’s auto-fulfillment model for course materials eliminating the need for customer access to bookshelves, we had the opportunity to reimagine the space. By enclosing the course materials section with walls, the remaining area was transformed into a vibrant retail space, showcasing Carthage’s branded apparel and gifts. ![24_Promo-Bookstore-SJ-162](https://blog.slingshotedu.com/hs-fs/hubfs/24_Promo-Bookstore-SJ-162.jpg?width=381&height=253&name=24_Promo-Bookstore-SJ-162.jpg)As customers enter the store, they are welcomed by wall banners that guide them toward the new custom curved cash wrap. It was designed to serve as more than a functional element—it is the heart of the store, fostering warm and productive interactions between staff and customers. This intentional focus on a key touchpoint enhances the shopping experience and deepens connections anyone that enters the store. Behind the cash wrap, the feature wall commands attention with a collage of Carthage logos and iconic imagery. This design reflects the school’s unique character, incorporating symbols of campus landmarks and traditions.![24_Promo-Bookstore-SJ-169](https://blog.slingshotedu.com/hs-fs/hubfs/24_Promo-Bookstore-SJ-169.jpg?width=227&height=373&name=24_Promo-Bookstore-SJ-169.jpg) The product selection was thoughtfully expanded to go beyond traditional college-branded merchandise. A dedicated Apple display now highlights the latest tech products, while essential office supplies and everyday convenience items were included to create a one-stop shop for students’ academic and lifestyle needs. This project was made possible through the support and collaboration of Carthage’s talented team. Special thanks to Abby Hanna and Adam Koenig for their partnership and for ensuring we had access to all necessary resources.
